As a general rule, people write letters of intent for a variety of different purposes including school admissions, business purposes, grants and other types of agreements. When submitting the letter to a company or any other organization, the letter must be written clearly in order for the recipient of the letter to understand.

The format of the letter of intent is normally similar to most common memorandums. That means, the letter can be written on an individual’s personal letterhead. Each letter will always contain the date. Once the date of the letter is complete, the subject of the letter can be typed on the “Re:” line, which is better known as the regards line.

The body of the letter can give a brief synopsis about the intent. For instance, if a prospective college student is sending a letter of intent to a college that they want to attend. The body of the letter should be used to provide a brief synopsis of the student’s qualifications.
